The Management Committee offers the GCYO a diverse set of skills. Whilst all members possess unique strengths based on their previous experience, the skills offered are complementary. However, the one commonality shared is their commitment to the GCYO, which is based on prioritising:
The following bios offer a brief overview of some members.
Director of Music, Bruce Davidson, B. Mus, ATCL, Dip EdBruce began at the GCYO as a conductor in 1984. He works with many private students in Queensland and has been teaching at The Southport School for 26 years. Bruce is the music expert on the Committee and his vast knowledge and willingness to share it, is vital to the organisation. Whilst the Committee is primarily focussed on the ‘business’ of the organisation, Bruce guides the Committee on all issues relating to our core business – orchestral music. Bruce is currently completing his Diploma of Education at the University of Queensland. He is married to Miyuki and has two sons - Kentaro (18 years, concert master Youth Symphony) and Shintaro (22 years, trombone Youth Symphony). Bruce’s skill set is invaluable to the organisation and he is devoted to the members of the GCYO.
Nicolas Saint Clair was appointed to the Management Committee in the role of Treasurer in June 2011. He has been a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants since 1997, having served articles with KPMG in Cape Town. Nicolas holds a degree in economics from the University of Natal, and a post graduate qualification in Accounting and Finance from the University of Cape Town. He has worked in South Africa, the United Kingdom and settled in Australia in 2002. He has held a number of financial roles across a range of industries including financial services, property development and energy, and is currently employed as a senior analyst for a large regional bank. He is married to Claudia and has two children, Cleo and Luc. Luc is a member of the GCYO Symphony. Nicolas hopes to apply his financial background to benefit the GCYO through a combination of robust business planning and rigorous internal controls.
Louise Gorman was appointed at the AGM in June 2011 to fill the Chairperson/President role. Louise brings to the GCYO substantial business experience.
She is the Regional Coordinator, Department of Communities, Queensland Government. Her tertiary qualifications include an Associate Degree of Social Science, Southern Cross University, Double Major in Counselling & Mediation and Human Relations & Communication. Louise advises the Queensland Government on areas relating to inequity, disadvantage and the underrepresentation of various minorities in the workplace. She develops policies and programs for the Queensland Government that provide equitable outcomes for all members of the workforce. Louise has no vested interest in the operations or decision outcomes as that relates to the GCYO, which brings a new depth of objectivity to the GCYO. She is a valuable addition to the Management Committee.
Sarah Jane is a graduate of the Gold Coast Youth Orchestra! From playing flute and piccolo in her primary and high school years, Sarah Jane renewed her
friendship with the GCYO in 2009 when her eldest daughter joined the Junior Strings Orchestra. She now has two daughters in their third year of GCYO, both in the Strings Orchestra. Sarah Jane is currently the lead Group Administrator for the String Orchestra, assisting the conductor with the musical direction and organisation of the group. Sarah Jane is a Classroom Music Specialist with Education Queensland working at a local Gold Coast primary school. She holds a Bachelor of Teaching and a Bachelor of Education qualification. Sarah Jane conducts school choirs and works with instrumental teachers in encouraging young musicians to achieve great things with and in music. She is passionate about music and sees her work within the GCYO as an integral to her strong commitment to the benefits of music education.
Dr Vallipuram Muthukkumarasamy was appointed at the AGM in June 2011 to the position of General Committee Member. Dr Muthukkumarasamy is a Member of the Institute for Integrated and Intelligent Systems (IIIS) Research Centre and Senior Lecturer in the School of Information and Communication Technology, Griffith University. He is an expert of international standing in his area of research and leading the Networking and Security Research Group. He is Co-Director of Internalisation and Program Convenor of Master of Information Technology. He has held numerous positions in various committees at National and International levels. He has obtained BScEng with 1st Class Hons from University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka and PhD from Cambridge University, England. He is a member of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) the world’s largest professional association. Dr Muthukkumarasamy has extensive experience in organizational behaviour and strategic management and will be a substantial contributor during strategic deliberations. Dr Muthukkumarasamy, his wife Gowri and their two sons, are members of the GCYO.
Michael Kyle, Senior Partner at Adamson Bernays Kyle & Jones Lawyers has graciously agreed to accept the appointment of GCYO Honorary Solicitor. M
ichael will assist the GCYO in interpreting and following the legal mandates imposed on the GCYO as an Association governed by the Rules of Incorporated Associations in Queensland. Michael the most senior lawyer and one of the founding partners at Adamson Bernays Kyle & Jones Lawyers. He is a graduate with a Bachelor of Laws degree from Queensland University and was admitted as a solicitor in 1972. Complementing his extensive experience as a Gold Coast commercial lawyer representing both large and small business clients, Michael is also a Notary Public. This function, administered by the Archbishop of Canterbury, has worldwide acceptance and authorises the holder by law to certify documents, take affidavits and administer oaths on an internationally recognized basis. Michael believes that an essential part of being a good lawyer is having the capacity to communicate with clients on any level. The GCYO is very grateful for his generous support.
