Mission

“Music is a common language spoken around the world.
It builds a bridge between all peoples and all lands”

Author Unknown

At the GCYO, we are committed to the importance of music as an essential component in the social and cultural fibre of our society.

One of the ways we serve this commitment is through the provision of orchestral and ensemble experience for children and young adults. To this end, our valued Mission Statement is:

“To encourage young musicians,
in the pursuit of excellence and enjoyment,
in orchestral and ensemble performance.”

The Gold Coast Youth Orchestra offers the opportunity for young musicians to perform frequently throughout the year. The GCYO offers in-house camps, workshops and tutorial to facilitate the optimum development of our musicians.

To achieve this, we aim to equip young musicians with all the necessary skills required to be valuable member of an orchestra or band. Some of these skills include:

  • Pitch and Intonation: we strive to help our musicians develop the necessary technical abilities of sound pitch and intonation awareness
  • Orchestral Balance: An understanding of balance within the orchestra
  • A passion for orchestral repertoire and performance at a high level
  • Orchestral etiquette
  • Confidence, a sense of belonging, perseverance, consistency and enjoyment
